Note from Gizmo: I've given this program a pretty thorough test by installing it in a VM under the watchful eye of Avira AntiVir, Prevx 3 and Comodo firewall. Actually installing a product is a much more powerful way of detecting malware than simply scanning a file though for safety, you need to do this in a VM or sandbox. Anyway, neither AntiVir or PrevX reported any problems and Comodo raised no alarms As a result I'm confident in saying the malware detections reported by some users in the comments below were false positives. In other words you can install this program with confidence.

Avidemux or XMedia Recode work well for me and neither has the bundled crapware which comes with the odious Freemake or the invasive logo watermarks added to Freemake conversions. iWisoft is too heavy on resources and too slow in my opinion.
iWisoft Free Video Converter produces highly effective and technically sound outcomes. My one concern rests in its operating in real time -- a video with a two-hour running time will take two hours to convert. I can't attest to this being the case for all formats, but it is for conversions to .mp4.
Freemake is so invasive, I barely have any bandwidth left. I had to install a linux system to remove it entirely, even after taking ownership of ALL of Freemake's files. Now that I'm rid of it, I'm back shopping for a new contender.
